who is sabod?

The South African Body of Dance is a non-profit organisation, which was originally founded as the South African Dance Teachers Association in 1935, with the aim of providing high quality dance education and training.

With more than 150 studios offering the SABOD syllabus and countless more participating in SABOD run competitions, the organisation remains committed to promoting dance as a lifelong passion and career choice, and is working towards making dance accessible to all.

SABOD is affiliated to The Federation of Dance Sport South Africa and the International Dance Organisation and has sent hundreds of dancers to numerous world championship events where they officially represent South Africa.

MISSION

We believe that dance is a powerful tool for self-expression, discipline, and physical and mental health.

Our mission is to:

Train and develop dancers into confident entertainers and accomplished instructors.

Instil in each dancer a sense of self-discipline, a competitive spirit, a desire to be physically healthy, a true appreciation of ability and talent, and a determination to improve and progress in a structured manner.

Provide a sound education in an honourable environment where opportunity exists to select dance with its many facets as a possible career path.

Offer an extra-curricular activity that gives our youth a chance to develop their skills mentally, physically, and emotionally in order to become not only better dancers but better human beings.

Membership to SABOD is open to all, and we advocate transparency and non-discrimination in all our endeavours.

VISION

The South African Body of Dance (SABOD) envisions a world where dance is celebrated as a vital part of the human experience.

We believe that dance can enrich people's lives by promoting physical and mental health, building self-confidence and self-discipline, fostering creativity and expression, and enabling people to connect with their emotions helping build community and understanding.

SABOD strives to be the leading association in South Africa for the development of dance. We aim to provide high-quality dance education to all ages and abilities.
